| K.S., Mother“As you know, I am a parent that cares for a 6 year old child with an Acquired Brain Injury, 6 other diagnoses and severe sensory problems. He came to VPOT after receiving many services, OT included. What made a real difference for my son was the ability to relax and feel comfortable outside of his ‘bubble’ home environment. This allowed testing and treatment to be done rather than spending half the therapy time dealing with behaviour issues. VPOT and the environment that the office exudes were imperative in his care. I truly believe that without the help of VPOT he would not have been as successful in academics and life skills as he is today. As a result I am now a proud parent that gets to enjoy the pure pleasure of my child having the ability ONCE AGAIN to say “I love you” verbally and physically through his many hugs and kisses. For this I will be ever grateful to VPOT for taking part in giving me back a part of my son I took for granted and thought I had lost forever!” M.S., MotherMy daughter, who is now 9 years old, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in November 2002. Many have been the interventions that she underwent but Occupational Therapy has been one of the most beneficial. Occupational therapy has helped her improve her balance, strength, attention span, the integration of her brain and self-confidence. The occupational therapists do it by engaging her in specific activities. At VPOT her OT always plans these activities very well so that they focus on the specific areas and concerns that were identified in the comprehensive assessment. I believe that the individualized attention, together with the professional care and specialized equipment that VPOT offers has made the difference in her progress. She can now focus much better, she is more outgoing and independent and the urge to bite has decreased considerably. All in all the skills she has learned with her OT have helped her a great deal to do her academics and physical tasks in school.” |
